Group Visits

Why not arrange a visit to our workshops in Steeple Ashton with friends or perhaps your craft groups?  We are recognised by the WI in their Speakers List.

We are very keen to pass on our knowledge to promote and preserve the local heritage skills of spinning weaving and dyeing, skills that were so very important years ago.  Other work made by our members in our various craft groups will also be on display.

Groups are welcomed for hands-on experience in one of our four purpose equipped studios or maybe you prefer to watch. Your visit would start with an introductory talk by one of our members; this would take place in our main studio.  In smaller groups we demonstrate and offer hands on experience on both the spinning wheel and drop spindle. Try your hand at weaving with the help of one of our Weavers and discuss their work on the loom.

When we are all together again, we will look at our display boards and other crafts such as some of the older techniques of appliqué and how we try to use them with a modern twist in pictures, wall hangings and other small items. We will also have on display items from our other groups such as silver jewellery, felted buttons and recycled items.

All our facilities are fully accessible, with a wheelchair ramp to our weaving studios and dye garden and a stair lift up to our main studios.

A car park is provided to the rear of the building.

The current minimum cost is £100 for a group of 10 people or less and £10 per person over this number. The cost includes refreshments and the visit last approximately 2.5 hours.  The maximum number is 16 so we are able to give you an enjoyable experience. Our details are also in the WI year book.  Check out our testimonials below.

"This visit was a joy.  My communications with Beryl to organise our visit were a pleasure.  She was friendly, helpful and informative.  Directions were clear.  We had the chance to have a go at weaving and a very interesting talk on natural dyeing.  The ladies running the session were knowledgeable and supportive!  We ended the afternoon with delicious cakes and tea.  Thoroughly recommended.”
